On this page you will find a collection of Dean’s ten-minute plays. All scripts are available to be produced by anyone, anywhere in the world - absolutely FREE. The only condition is you must email Dean at dean@deanlundquist.com and let him know where and when you produced his script, listing the director, cast and theatre. If you have any production photos send them along as well and they may just end up on this website.

I Can Tell Your Handbag Is Fake (May 2008)

What is fashion?  Does it set you apart or make you feel like you belong?  Would you dare to tell someone that their designer handbag was fake?

* The play has gone on to productions in Pittsburgh, North Hollywood, Sydney, Singapore and New York in the 34th Annual Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short play festival presented at Playwrights Horizons.

* One of Dean's most popular plays with performances on three continents, I Can Tell Your Handbag Is Fake premiered as part of the inaugural Short+Sweet Malaysia Festival on 13 August 2008, Pentas 2, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre.

* Directed by Melissa Teoh with actors Amelia Chen, Anrie Too & Joylynn Teh, Sound Design by Joe Yan, Stage Management by Adrian Teh Eu-Weng.

* The hit play garnered three awards: The People's Choice Award, Best Director - Melissa Teoh, and Best Playwright - Dean Lundquist.

The Joy of Solitude

The Joy of Solitude (Apr 2010)

Based on the short story Un Estilo de Vida by Fernando Sorrentino.

Charlie's lifestyle is forever changed when he inadvertently locks himself in his apartment.

The Joy of Solitude premiered on July 14th as part of the Short+Sweet Singapore Festival 2010 at The Play Den in The Arts House, Singapore with Paul Lucas as Old Charlie and Tim Garner as Young Charlie.  The play was selected as a Judge's Choice pick for the Short+Sweet Singapore Gala Final.

The play was revived on August 5th with Karl Chaundy as Old Charlie and Tim Garner as Young Charlie at The Esplanade Theatre Studio, Singapore.  

The play was honored with the awards for Best Director (Dean Lundquist), Best Actor runner-up (Tim Garner) and was runner-up for Best Script and Best Overall Production.

Curried Condo (Dec 2009)

Sue is hunting for a new condominium.  Mr. Sharma shows her the perfect place--except for the smell.

Curried Condo was developed at the NYU Tisch Asia's drama lab, directed by Wendy Hammond with Stephan Fantome as Mr. Sharma and Oon Shu An as Sue Chen.  It premiered as part of I was Told There'd be Wine, December 2009 at NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia directed by Paloma Nafaratte with Oon Shu An reprising the role of Sue and Pavanjeet Singh as Mr. Sharma.

Finger Food (July 2008)

Untensils Unite!  A fork and spoon fear for their existence in a world dominated by unhealthy finger food.

* FINGER FOOD was shortlisted for the 2008 Pint-Sized Play Festival in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK and received a commendation in the judge's voting.

* FINGER FOOD premeired as part of the inagural AVASTAMA Play Festival in Valdosta, GA, Feb 2009.

* FINGER FOOD was a semi-finalist in the Lakeshore Players' Theatre 5th Annual 10-minute play festival. 

* FINGER FOOD was performed in Singapore as part of Magdalena Singapore's Wine, Women and Words II, February 27 & 28th 2009.

* FINGER FOOD was performed at Expose Yourself! at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore, March 6, 2008.

She puts her faith in the Lord.  He puts his faith in the Oakland Raiders.  Everyone has to believe in something.

Gifted (Oct 2008)

Mrs. Sylvia Lim wants desperately for her 6-year-old son, Bobby to attend a school for the gifted.  She and her husband work two jobs and literally save their pennies to afford elite pre-schools and expensive enrichment programs.   But child psychologist Dr. Cheryl Lee has a different definition of what it means to be 'gifted'.

Kangaroo Court (Feb 2009)

In this political satire, Lady Liberty defends a foreign publisher in a contempt of court hearing.  The only problem is, this kangaroo court is actually run by a bunch of kangaroos!

Trouble with your nemesis?  Maybe you're looking for a sidekick.  Need a new superhero costume?  Are your super powers sometimes uncontrollable?  Has the media been giving you a bad wrap?  Every week in Metropolis, troubled superheroes meet to help each other with their problems.

GOT-HOPE  GOT-HOPE (Oct 2008)

It's the bottom of the twelfth.  The Angels are letting their four-run lead slip away.  The bases are loaded when the star closer gets injured.  The bullpen's empty--except for two men.  One, a 19-year-old kid, fresh off a Nebraska farm, the other, a veteran bullpen catcher.  They only thing they need now is hope.

 WHOLE IN ONE (Oct 2008)

Ace is having the perfect day: he hit a hole-in-one and while celebrating, he's seduced by the two sultry women.  He wants them both, but can only have one--or can he have both?  That perfect day ends up haunting all three of them for the rest of their lives.

 SIDESHOW (Oct 2008)

Abused, ill-treated and nearly penniless, Marla and Lilith are running away from Kismet, Kansas to New Orleans.  They happen upon a carnival sideshow in Dodge City and Lilith has an idea.  In the end, they both end up with more than they imagined.

 NOT SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY (Jun 2008)

News anchor Frank Cappozolli is in for a surprise when Linda Loveless, the new girl in legal affairs, calls him to her office.  A comedy about copyright and Scottish beavers.

 COLLECT CALLS (Apr 2008)

A collection of phone call conversations between Jim and his Dad in roughly five year increments.  Like any dad, he wants his son to settle down and pass on the family name.  Jim has wanderlust and struggles with money, but eventually marries and makes his dad a grandfather.  Something unexpected happens when he calls his dad to give him the good news.

* Collect Calls was conceived at the Short+Sweet Playwriting Workshop '08 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  It has received stage readings at KLPac, The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and The Esplanade Theatres on the Bay.


 NATIVE SPEAKER (Jan 2008)

This Pinkerton Syndrome play is about a non-Caucasian who applies for a job as a native speaker.  However, the interviewer claims that the position is filled.  The applicant believes that he isn't being hired for some other reason until the world gets turned upside down.

* Native Speaker was workshopped at the LASALLE College of the Arts directed by the playwright with actors Rekha Amara and Pal Rasumussen in May 2008.

* It premiered on 18 June 2008 as part of the Short+Sweet Singapore Festival at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts directed by Muhammed Faizad Salim with actors Shida Bte Mahadi and Peer Metze.


 PAIRLESS (April 2008) (monologue)

Living alone.  Doing the laundry.  It can be lonely--especially when you're without your other half and you don't know where they are.

* Good Morning Teacher was presented at the 2007 Singapore Writer's Festival, directed by the playwright with actors Timothy Nga, Richard Chua, Kevin Chua, Elizabeth Tan and Serene Tan and again as part of Short+Sweet Sinagpore 2008 at The Playden, The Arts House directed by Nicole Stinton with the Short+Sweet ensemble.




CHILDREN'S PLAYS

Three Japanese Boys (July 2008)

This is a collection of three tales of legendary Japanese boys: Kintaro (The Golden Boy), Urashimataro (The Fisher Boy) and Momotaro (The Peach Boy).  Written for an ensemble of 5 actors, the three boys battle demons, journey to the bottom of the sea, befriend animals and learn valuable lessons about life.  Presented  together, these three tales comprise a full-length children's play.

Kintaro (The Golden Boy) (July 2008)

Born with super-human strength, Kintaro and his mother live in the forest where his best friends are the woodland animals.  One day Lord Raiko spots Kintaro and devises a plan for Kintaro to win his deceased father's honour back by confronting the demon king. A delightful play for both children and adults.

Urashimataro (The Fisher Boy) (May 2008)

The second in the Japanese Boy series. Based on a Japanese folk-tale, Urashimataro saves a turtle's life and travels to the bottom of the sea. He falls in love with a beautiful princess but longs to go home. Before he does, the princess gives him a magical box. When he returns to the surface, he is shocked at his discovery. A delightful play for both children and adults.

Momotaro (The Peach Boy) (May 2008)

Momotaro or The Peach Boy is based on a Japanese folk-tale about a boy born from a peach to an elderly couple. He grows up to save Japan from an onslaught of Oni (demons) with the help of his animal friends. A delightful play for both children and adults.
